​​2026 Toyota Corolla Welcomes New Standard Safety and FX Edition​

The Toyota Corolla is one of the best-selling and longest-running names in automotive history. Since its introduction in Japan in 1966 and its entry into the U.S. market just two years later, with 60 horsepower, Toyota has sold more than 30 million Corollas worldwide.  

The 1986 Toyota Corolla FX16 

Fast forward to 1986, when Toyota debuted its first car assembled in the United States, a white Corolla FX16 three-door hatchback. The FX16 was heralded as a breath of fresh air for Toyota with Car and Driver saying in their test, “Whatever the FX16 may lack in sheer horsepower, it compensates for handsomely in handling, in ride quality, and in overall fun-to-drive personality … It’s slightly quicker than the GTI to 60 mph, and the two are neck and neck at the end of the quarter-mile.” 

Meet The 2026 Corolla Hatchback FX Edition 

Enter 2025, and the Toyota Corolla FX16 is back for the ’26 model year as the FX Edition. Powered by a 2.0-liter Dynamic Force 4-cylinder engine that produces 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque, this new car is available with either a slick-shifting 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT. It achieves up to 32 miles per gallon in city driving and 41 mpg on the highway, with a combined fuel economy of 35 mpg.  

What Makes the FX Edition Special 

What makes the Corolla Hatchback FX Edition so special is its hint of nostalgia without ruining the modern aesthetic and technology. Based on the SE model, the FX features a vented rear wing painted black, 18-inch gloss white wheels with black lug nuts, and a special badge on the rear hatch that denotes the vehicle’s uniqueness. Toyota designers didn’t skimp on the inside either, as the FX Edition has special black Sport Touring seats with suede inserts and orange stitching. The same stitching also appears on the door cards, steering wheel, and shifter boot. A 7-inch digital gauge cluster is also standard. Toyota says it will only produce a total of 1,600 Corolla Hatchback FX Edition models for the U.S. 

Trim Levels and Pricing 

The 2026 Corolla Hatchback is also available in SE and XSE trim levels with the same power and transmission options. Base SE models start from $25,375 with the top-of-the-line FX Edition priced at $27,975.

Toyota is also making the rest of the Corolla Hatchback lineup safer than before, with the addition of standard Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert to the suite of standard safety features, complementing Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. This suite also includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Proactive Driving Assist, and Automatic High Beams.  

Great Standard Tech 

All trim levels also receive an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen that comes with Toyota Audio Multimedia, which allows two Bluetooth phones to be connected simultaneously, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A new wireless charger is also standard across the range.
