How Did the 2025 Toyota 4Runner Fare in Cars.com’s Child Seat Tests?

The 2025 Toyota 4Runner is a family vehicle. With about a dozen trim levels to choose from, you can find the right combination for a family of five—or seven—to travel together on road trips or get across town for a run to daycare. Essential for traveling with children is their child seats. Installing them in your 4Runner will keep your children safe and secure.

Cars.com conducts child seat tests for many vehicles sold in this country. Recently, the editors tested the 2025 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium to see how car seats fit in the two-row configuration. Cars.com found that the 2025 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium did quite well, scoring two “A” grades and three “B” grades.
In its child seat tests, Cars.com uses a number of restraints commonly used in automobiles. The editors use an infant seat, a convertible front- and rear-facing seat, and a booster seat. Cars.com also checks for latch fitment for child seat installation.

One of the most important tests Cars.com conducts is to check how each type of child seat is latched and secured in every passenger position. This test earned an “A” for the 2025 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium by the editors. They cited that “the two sets of lower anchors sit under large Velcro flaps; they’re easy to find and use. Three top tether anchors sit halfway down the seatbacks and are clearly marked for easy connection.”

The 2025 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium also got the top grade when fitted with a forward-facing convertible seat. Cars.com stated that “installation via [the] Latch was easy, and the convertible in forward mode fit well once we removed the 4Runner’s head restraint to situate the car seat flush against the seatback.” Tests on the infant, rear-facing convertible, and booster seats yielded good results with “B” grades given for each one. All of these seats “fit well” and were “easy to install.”

Not only will the 2025 4Runner take your family wherever you want to go, but it will also take everything you need. The TRD Off-Road Premium offers 48.4 cubic feet of space behind the second row of seats. That’s more than enough room to store your child seats, their bags, extra food, and additional supplies. You can also access all of their items by simply lowering the window on the liftgate.
