How Do Car Seats Fit in the GMC Acadia

Becoming a parent is a wild experience that changes many things in life. One thing that sometimes needs to change is the parents’ vehicle choice, as many need a larger model to accommodate the little one or ones. The GMC Acadia is a great option for many parents, but some wonder how well car seats fit in the SUV. Cars.com recently investigated and scored the Acadia on its car seat fit. Let’s take a look.
Cars.com tested a 2024 GMC Acadia Denali, the top trim. The three-row Acadia was recently updated, and GMC improved the interior space. With seating for seven people, car seats are not a problem, although it should be noted that models equipped with second-row captain’s chairs obviously cannot accommodate three car seats across.
Looking at the publication’s scorecard, the only areas where the Acadia had any issues were forward-facing convertible and booster seats in the third row. The SUV earned an “A” score in every other category except the LATCH system in the third row, which was not tested since there are no lower anchors in the third row.

The testing included installing large, rear-facing infant seats in the second row while adjusting the first-row seats to normal adult positions. While many competitors struggle with the configuration, the Acadia excelled, with Cars.com finding no issue fitting a seat behind a five-foot, six-inch occupant.
Many three-row SUVs make it difficult to access the “wayback” seat, but that’s not the case with the Acadia. Third-row access earned an “A” in testing, with the publication saying that the sliding second-row seats make it very easy to access the back. Additionally, models equipped with captain’s chairs have a walkway between the seats that gives extra access in the cabin.

Some of the challenges with car seats in any third-row seat include space and seatbelt configurations. The Acadia’s fixed third-row headrests make it difficult to install larger car seats, and the seat shape itself conflicts with some car seat models. The seatbelts can be hard to reach for adults, making them even more difficult for kids to buckle on their own.
