How Much Cargo Fits Behind the Third Row of a Chevy Tahoe?

A three-row SUV is only as good as the amount of cargo you can place behind the third row of seats when they’re upright. This is what makes the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe such a brilliant sport utility. There aren’t many vehicles in this world that can handle what the Tahoe is able to tackle. The new Tahoe has 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, but how much luggage does that actually equate to?
A New Luggage Test by Edmunds.com
Edmunds.com recently took the full-size Chevy and did its famous luggage test. As mentioned before, with 25.5 cubic feet, the Tahoe should be able to hold quite a bit. This updated fifth-generation model has independent rear suspension, doing away with the older generations’ solid rear axle and thus gaining 10.2 cubic feet of space all the way in the rear. Owners should be very happy with the ability to carry more cargo. Whether that be groceries, luggage, or the kids’ stuff, there won’t be much you can’t pile into the 2025 Tahoe.
Underfloor Storage
There is a storage area under the rear floor, ideal for storing loose items like tools, towels, bungee cords, ratchet straps, emergency gear, and other infrequently accessed items.
What Types of Bags Are Used in the Test?
When it comes to the bags Edmunds uses in its test, the dimensions of them are as follows: “There are two bags you’d definitely have to check at the airport: Big Gray (26 inches long x 16.5 inches wide x 12 inches deep) and Big Blue (26 x 16.5 x 10). There are three roll-aboards that usually fit as carry-on: Medium Tall (24 x 14 x 9), Medium Wide (23 x 15 x 9) and the smaller Green Bag (21 x 14 x 9.5). Finally, there’s everyone’s favorite Fancy Bag (21 x 12 x 11), a medium-size duffle.”
How Did the Tahoe Do?
So did the Tahoe fit all the bags? It absolutely did, and because the third-row headrests are full size there’s no worry that slamming on the brakes will cause a bag to fly forward and hit a passenger. While there could be some visibility concerns for the driver looking into the rearview mirror, buyers can avoid this worry by optioning the available Advanced Technology Group that brings with it a rearview camera mirror.
