Review: 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 1958
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser returns to fulfill its original mission as a true off-road ready SUV. This goes beyond utility and capability in this latest version of Toyota’s longest-running model.
The 1958 model we drove is named after the first full year Toyota started selling automobiles in the U.S.A. In fact, it is the Land Cruiser was one of the first vehicles that were offered that first year. This trim level brings back the simplicity that Land Cruiser is known for, along with the essentials you need for any off-road adventure you want to take.
The 2024 Land Cruiser is built on the same platform shared by the Tacoma, Tundra, and the upcoming 2025 4Runner. It stands tall with a large and deep side glass profile that makes it easy to see all your surroundings. The attraction to the Land Cruiser 1958 is its throwback front end with round headlamps and the Toyota name spelled out across the grille.
The cargo hold is accessible by a large liftgate, which can be opened to load everything you need for your adventure. You can also open the liftgate’s glass to add just a few more items on the go. The liftgate features a rear glass that can be opened as another way to load in cargo.
The 2024 Land Cruiser 1958 model rides on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires that grip exceptionally well off the highway.
The rugged theme continues inside with a modern cabin. The 1958 model features a seven-inch digital instrument cluster full of vital information that is easy to read. The fuel and temperature gauges are on each side of the instrument cluster. You have plenty of tactile, easy-to-use controls on the steering wheel and throughout the dashboard and center console.
The 1958 model’s fabric-trimmed seats are cool in the summer and comfortable in the winter. There is seating for up to five occupants across two rows. Drivers will find a perfect seating position with manual adjustments for rake, height, and recline. You also get heated front seats and steering wheel to keep you warm. Rear-seat passengers will enjoy a comfortable and spacious place to go along for the ride. Cargo space starts with 37.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats. For longer items, you can fold down those seats to expand the cargo space.
Driving the 2024 Land Cruiser 1958 model is the i-FORCE MAX hybrid driveline, consisting of a 2.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and an electric motor, putting down 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. This combined power source is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and the full-time four-wheel drive system. In addition to a few drive modes, the 1958 model is equipped with Downhill Ascent Control and CRAWL Control for better off-road terrain control.
You will love the overall driving experience the 2024 Land Cruiser 1958 has to offer. With a double-wishbone front and four-link rear suspension set-up, expect a smooth ride both on and off the highway. Overall, the 2024 Land Cruiser manages all terrain conditions with ease and comfort.

The steering system manages tight maneuvers extremely well. It also feels confident when traversing the highway. The brakes work very well, thanks to a strong pedal feel and response to the wheels. We found all of this to be helpful on a few nearby off-highway tracks nearby.
The experience inside the 2024 Land Cruiser is a highly civilized one. It is now right sized for adventure with great value to boot. Your chosen trail lies ahead to take one on.
