Buying your next family SUV means looking at a vast number of options and finally whittling down that list to feature just a few options that fit your size needs, price, and amenities. Two of the most popular options for buyers are the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban. Both vehicles do the same thing, but the Suburban does it with a bit of extra size. There are plenty of reasons to choose the Tahoe or the Suburban.

Engines and Trim Levels

Let’s start with what both full-size Chevrolet SUVs share: engines. Buyers can choose between a 5.3-liter V8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, a 6.2-liter V8 that makes 420 horsepower and 460 torque, or a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbo-diesel that has 305 horsepower and 495 torque. Every model features a 10-speed automatic transmission and comes in LS, LT, RST, Premier, High Country, and Z71.

Towing and Payload Capacities

When it comes to towing, the Tahoe has a slight advantage, with its ability to tow up to 8,400 lbs compared to 8,200 lbs for the Suburban. The Tahoe’s max payload capacity is also 84 more lbs, at 1,834.

Price Comparison

If price is a factor when buying your next full-size SUV, then the Tahoe may be the right decision. With a starting price of $61,195, the Tahoe LS comes in a whole $3,000 less than the base model Suburban LS. But then you have to ask yourself, is 3-grand too much to get into a vehicle with so much extra cargo space behind the third row?

Exterior Size Comparison

When sitting next to one another, you can see that the Suburban is a whole 14.4 inches longer than the 211.3-inch Tahoe, which also gives it an extra 22 cubic feet of total interior space.

Cargo Space

Cargo space is where the Suburban wins for families that have three or more children in their vehicle on a regular basis. With 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, the Suburban carries an extra 16 cubes over the 25.5 in the Tahoe. While the Tahoe has similar space to a minivan, the Suburban is just that much larger and swallows luggage, strollers, and anything else you can think of taking on a trip without needing to try and feng shui anything to fit it in.

Both Have Great Tech

If technology is a selling point for you, both the Tahoe and Suburban have it in droves. The standard 17.7-inch center infotainment screen is attached to an 11-inch digital instrument cluster that can display just about anything you want or need your SUV to show you. With Google Built-In, your Tahoe or Suburban will have native apps like Google Maps, Spotify, and more to allow you to control your drive.

Super Cruise Is a Game Changer

Optional on both SUVs is the new industry standard in hands-free driving, Super Cruise. Super Cruise will not only allow drivers to take their hands off the wheel and relax during long drives, but it can also do all the driving while you are towing. If you want to change lanes, simply put your turn signal on, and Super Cruise will handle it. With 750,000 miles of roads mapped between the United States and Canada, there is simply no better way to travel the highway.

Standard Safety Keeps Occupants at Ease

Safety is also an area where both the Suburban and Tahoe are evenly matched. Chevy Safety Assist gives owners Forward Collision Alert, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, IntelliBeam, Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist, HD Surround Vision, Teen Driver, and Buckle to Drive.
