​​The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser 1958 Offers the Rugged Fundamentals​

If you’re looking for a rugged but dependable 4×4 from a brand with a heritage of building long-lasting, dependable off-roader SUVs, the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser is probably already on your radar. Fear not. You don’t need to check every box on the Land Cruiser’s option list to walk away with a competent 4×4. The entry-level 1958 Edition will get the job done just fine.  

Fundamentals 

There are several premium off-road features that are exclusive to the upper trim of the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser, but the fundamental specs between them are identical. Both are powered by the same 2.4-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, and both come standard with an 8-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive system. No matter what, you get 8.0 inches of ground clearance, a maximum approach angle of 31 degrees, and a maximum departure angle of 17 degrees.  

Underneath all of that, the 2025 Land Cruiser is built on solid bones. It shares the same underlying structure with the Toyota Tundra, Tacoma, Sequoia, and 4Runner. While this new platform was engineered to be more refined than the body-on-frame chassis of older models, it is nonetheless a robust, truck-focus platform.  

FOMO? 

If you’re looking for upgrades, you’ll need to spring for the Land Cruiser trim. It’s a bit more expensive, but it unlocks three additional off-road features: 

Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM): This feature electronically disconnects the Land Cruiser’s anti-roll bars. This allows more articulation of the SUV’s suspension, which can be helpful in some off-road situations. While connected, they behave the same way as the fixed stabilizer bars on the Land Cruiser 1958.  

Multi-Terrain Select (MTS): Toyota’s mode selection system offers different throttle, braking, and traction control maps to help regulate wheelspin under different outside conditions. Just choose your mode and go! 

Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM) system: Electronic disconnecting stabilizer bars and advanced throttle management may sound impressive, but there’s no substitute for an extra set of eyes on the trail. MTM gives you the next-best thing: four sets of digital eyes (front, left, side, and rear) that can help you keep on your line even when things get tricky. Like to take your trail time alone?
