The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Takes on The Edmunds.com U-Drag Course – and Sets the Record

To understand the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and how it can achieve record track speeds is to understand the inner workings of this fast machine. This goes beyond horsepower, suspension geometry, and the materials used to build the 2025 Corvette ZR1. It is how it performs as a complete sports car. It is the combination of the 0-60 MPH sprint, the quarter-mile drag, and deceleration to a benchmarked braking distance. It is that intersection of numbers that enthusiasts crave to absorb and comprehend. This is why Edmunds.com proclaimed the 2025 Corvette ZR1 as its “fastest gas car” in its U-Drags course history. Before we get into their findings, let’s break down what goes into a 2025 Corvette ZR1.
The mid-engine Corvette shell is lightened and equipped with an aerodynamics package designed for track work. The large rear spoiler, flow-through hood, front splitter, ground effects, and airflow scoops add more stability and downforce, keeping the 2025 Corvette ZR1 planted on the surface. These add to the sensation of speed, even on the highway.
The heart of the 2025 Corvette ZR1 is a custom-built 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged flat-plane crankshaft V8. With a redline of 8,000 RPM, it puts down 1,064 horsepower and 828 pound-feet of torque. It also has a top speed of 233 MPH. All of this is fed through an eight-speed dual clutch transmission.
The Magnetic Selective Ride Control 4.0 sets up the suspension for the right amount of damping, delivering precise cornering. Stopping power is accomplished through a standard set of carbon-ceramic brakes.

Edmunds.com runs its U-Drags through a combination of a 0-60 MPH sprint and a quarter-mile drag. Carved out of an airport runway, it runs along a straight line until it reaches a braking zone, where it must take a U-turn to return to the start/finish line.
To benchmark the results from Edmunds.com’s U-Drags run, we should mention that General Motors’ own testing states that the 2025 Corvette ZR1 can go from 0-60 MPH in 23 seconds, while accomplishing the quarter mile in 9.6 seconds at 150 MPH.
With those benchmarks set, Edmunds.com set up the 2025 Corvette ZR1 in Track 1 mode, disabling stability control. In both runs, they returned 0-60 MPH times of 2.7 seconds, quarter-mile times of 10.0 seconds at 144.1 MPH, and cornering ratings of 1.38 g. In total, the 2025 Corvette ZR1 made the entire U-Drags run in a record 28.9 seconds at an average speed of 156 MPH—the fastest gas-fueled vehicle they have ever put on the U-Drags course.

As they said, it is “quite a weapon” and on “another level.”
