Toyota Expands Hybrid Production in the U.S.A.

This past year saw the growth of hybrid-powered vehicles in the Toyota lineup. As Tacoma and Camry sales jumped, so has the demand for our industry-leading HEV and PHEV drivelines. Sales for hybrid Toyotas now account for 50 percent in the U.S.A.
To meet this increased demand, Toyota has expanded production of hybrid drivelines and vehicles in the U.S.A. This expansion is part of a $10 billion investment in manufacturing in this country over the next five years.
Specifically, this investment in hybrid production expansion amounts to $912 million. As part of this investment, 252 new jobs will be added across five Toyota manufacturing facilities in this country, including locations in Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
While this expansion will help hybrid vehicles currently assembled in the U.S.A., it will also add Corolla Hybrid production at Toyota’s Blue Springs, Mississippi, facility. That now means that every Corolla sedan will now be assembled in this country for our market.
The expansion of hybrid production also adds more value to the four other facilities in this country. In Buffalo, West Virginia, they will produce a new generation hybrid transaxle and rear motor stator starting in 2027. They currently assemble more than one million engines, transmissions, and hybrid transaxles in West Virginia.

A new machining line will be added to the Georgetown, Kentucky, facility for 2027. They will have the capacity to assemble 700,000 units annually, including the latest hybrid engines. The Kentucky facility is the home of the Camry.
In Jackson, Tennessee, the expansion includes three new assembly lines producing hybrid transaxle cases and housings, along with engine blocks for hybrid engines. These new lines should be operational in 2027 and 2028 with a capacity of 500,000 units annually.
Lastly, the Troy, Missouri, facility will operate a new assembly line by 2027 to produce more than 200,000 cylinder heads for hybrid vehicles.
These investments to expand hybrid production will help assemble the most reliable vehicles on the road today. Toyota emphasizes quality across the board, which is a massive benefit to you.
In fact, Toyota produces around 75 percent of the vehicles sold in this country at American facilities staffed by local workers. To continue to provide a strong workforce, the company has also committed to educating and preparing future employees through programs, such as Driving Possibilities. This program supports Pre-K to grade 12 curriculum rooted in hands-on STEM education, closing learning gaps and fulfilling essential needs for students and their families.
All of these cement Toyota’s commitment to our customers by delivering more of what you are looking for. Especially here in South Dakota. To experience what a Toyota can do for you, contact us at Sharp Automotive to see one soon!
