Toyota’s Huntsville, Alabama Engine Plant Celebrates its 25th Year

Toyota assembles Camrys and RAV4’s in Georgetown, KY; assembles Highlanders, Grand Highlanders, and Sienna vans in Princeton, IN; manufactures Sequoias and Tundras just outside San Antonio, TX, and cranks out Corollas in Blue Springs, MS. None of those vehicles would get that far down the road if it weren’t for Toyota’s engine assembly plant in Huntsville, AL, which just celebrated its 25th year of operation on June 11, 2026. Sharp Automotive invites you to join them in celebrating this important plant’s silver anniversary. 

The factory started as a $220 million investment solely to build engines for the Tundra full-size pickup truck. It has since grown into a $1.7 billion advanced manufacturing facility that assembles four- and six-cylinder engines for seven of the nine model lines Toyota builds in the U.S.

We are proud of every team member who contributes to this legacy.” 

Currently, over 11 million engines have been built within the Alabama plant. A recent $282 million investment in 2025 expanded the plant’s capacity, enabling it to also assemble three types of advanced differentials. 

“What began as a historic investment in North Alabama 25 years ago has grown into a world-class manufacturing operation that drives Alabama’s economy and puts our state on the map for automotive innovation,” said Alabama Governor Kay Ivey. “I congratulate Toyota Alabama and the thousands of hardworking employees whose dedication has fueled its success and made this milestone possible. As Toyota Alabama celebrates 25 years of excellence, I am proud of the jobs, opportunities and partnerships it has created, and I look forward to its continued success for years to come.” 

Beyond creating jobs and boosting economic vitality in Huntsville, the plant has donated more than $24 million to local nonprofits and community organizations. This includes an almost $11 million investment in Huntsville City Schools through the Toyota USA Foundation’s Driving Possibilities program. As part of its 25-year celebration, Toyota honored its legacy by awarding $25,000 each to five local nonprofits, including:

• Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Tennessee Valley
  Funding a student mentoring program 

• Free 2 Teach
  Providing teachers with essential school supplies and resources; 

• The Enrichment Center
  Providing school-based mental health therapy services; 

• The Schools Foundation
  Supporting professional development programs for school administrators to improve student achievement 

• Huntsville Hospital Foundation
  Supporting families through the Child Passenger Safety Program with up-to-date car seats that are properly installed.
