​​Toyota Shows Off Rugged Corolla Cross Concept at SEMA​

At Toyota, they are always trying out new ideas for their current lineup. Some with adventure in mind. To explore that objective, they created a concept based on the 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid that will give drivers a license to explore. 

At the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas back in November, Toyota unveiled the 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid Nasu Edition. This concept was developed to take our smallest hybrid SUV and turn it into a mountain-ready machine. It blends off-road capability, distinctive styling touches, and is loaded with lifestyle-focused accessories adding to the intent and purpose of this concept vehicle.  

The Nasu Edition was inspired by its namesake mountain in Japan and one of the island country’s most famous mountains. The highest of its five peaks stand 6,289 feet tall above central Japan. These five peaks yield great opportunities for hiking, partaking in its hot springs, and other outdoor activities. By the way, the word “nasu” in Japanese means “to achieve.” 

In achieving their challenge to craft an adventure-ready vehicle, they took the efficient 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid as their canvas. The 2.0-liter Atkinson Cycle four-cylinder engine is mated to three electric motors, producing a combined 196 net horsepower. The concept also has all-wheel drive for meeting the traction needs of this vehicle. 

The 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid Nasu Edition was designed and built by Toyota’s Service Parts and Accessories Development team. Their challenge was to add functionality aimed at adventure seeking consumers. To accomplish the goals of the team, they utilized CAD design, 3D printing, and CNC machining in creating additional accessories for the concept. From multiple locations, the team brought everything together towards fulfilling the goals of the build.  

From there, the team added beefy wheels mounted with Toyo Open Country A/T III all-terrain tires. The tires added ground clearance for tackling rougher terrain. A modified hood scoop was added for both function and design. Lightbars and fog lamps were added for excellent illumination when needed. The 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid was wrapped in a purple color that defines the other meaning of “nasu” – “eggplant.” 

Rock sliders, a cargo basket, and a modified articulating roof rack added more functionality to the outside. Inside, a custom drawer system and a refrigerator on a sliding rack help create an organized space when seeking adventure.
