​​What is the Difference Between the 2026 Toyota Highlander and Grand Highlander​? 

Do you know the difference between a 2026 Toyota Highlander and a Grand Highlander? We get a lot of people asking about our two midsize three-row SUVs with similar names. Until a few years ago, there was only one Highlander. Now, we have two to choose from. How can you choose the best one for your family? 

The first thing we’ll do is to break out the tape measure. The 2026 Grand Highlander is seven inches longer in overall length, over two inches wider, around four inches taller, and is four inches longer in wheelbase than the 2026 Highlander. However, they both have the same ground clearance at eight inches.  

Inside, the 2026 Grand Highlander offers a few more advantages over the 2026 Highlander. For passenger volume, the Highlander offers up to 139.5 cubic feet for up to seven passengers. The 2026 Grand Highlander offers more space with up to 153.3 cubic feet with seating for up to seven. One key dimension to note is the leg room in the third row. The 2026 Highlander offers 28.0 inches compared to the 2026 Grand Highlander’s 33.5 inches. The latter’s third row has been made to accommodate adults.  

Another set of measurements one should be aware of is for cargo space. The 2026 Grand Highlander offers more, with 20.6 cubic feet with the third row up. The 2026 Highlander’s cargo space is not to be ignored, with 16.0 cubic feet behind the third row. In all, the 2026 Grand Highlander offers much more space overall, with up to 97.5 cubic feet with the second and third rows down, compared to the 2026 Highlander’s maximum of 84.3 cubic feet.  

Power-wise, both the 2026 Highlander and 2026 Grand Highlander offer a choice between a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a 2.5-liter hybrid driveline. The 2026 Grand Highlander adds the Hybrid MAX powertrain, combining a 2.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with electric motors. The 2026 Highlander Hybrid can achieve a rated 35 MPG in combined driving, while the 2026 Grand Highlander Hybrid also earns a 34 MPG in combined driving.
