What’s New with the GMC Terrain for 2025?

Let’s face it: SUVs are hot, and the bigger the better. If a sprawling, seven-passenger SUV is what you’re after, GMC certainly has you covered. However, some buyers want something practical and efficient without sacrificing the conveniences of a crossover, such as the ease of loading and unloading the cargo area or the ability to climb in and out without having to contort yourself to reach a low-slung driver’s seat. For that, there’s the 2025 GMC Terrain.

2025 GMC Terrain lineup

The redesigned 2025 GMC Terrain, we should say. The compact crossover got a fairly comprehensive redesign for the latest model year. While most of the fundamentals are the same on paper, the Terrain benefits from an exterior redesign that not only brings it more in line with the rest of the GMC portfolio but also makes it much nicer to look at.

Inside and out, the Terrain is essentially the same size as before, but the new cabin makes it feel roomier and more cheerful. The new Terrain can be optioned with a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, high-definition surround-view camera, rain-sensing and heated wipers, and an automatic tailgate.

As before, the 2025 Terrain is powered by a 1.5L Turbocharged engine with 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. Believe it or not, this little SUV can even tow 1,500 pounds. Sure, that won’t get your powerboat to the marina, but that’s enough for the occasional utility trailer (or maybe a couple of jet skis?)

If you’re a fan of hitting trailheads or venturing into the backcountry, GMC offers the Terrain AT4, which provides an exclusive “Terrain” driving mode, more ground clearance, a metal underbody protection plate, 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires and a hill descent control feature for the automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard on the AT4 model.

But if you’d prefer a bit more pampering, the 2025 GMC Terrain Denali may be more your speed. This well-optioned alternative comes with heated outboard front and rear seats, 19-inch wheels, and frequency-selective dampers that offer a supple, refined ride. All-wheel drive and hill descent control are standard on the Denali, too, so you’ll never be caught flat-footed in bad weather.

And, of course, what family car is complete without a robust standard safety suite? The Terrain ships with automatic forward and reverse emergency braking, front pedestrian and cyclist protection, and blind spot monitoring with steering assist.
