2025 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid Joins The Cars.com Long Term Test Fleet

The latest sixth-generation 2025 Toyota 4Runner is barely getting into customers’ hands, and Cars.com has already purchased one for their long-term test fleet. The latest model adds the option of a hybrid powertrain for the first time ever, which is what the car news and review site ended up ordering and purchasing.

Lots of Questions About the New Model
While the website will answer plenty of questions over the next year or so, the burning question was whether they were going to pay an increased price for their Toyota due to tariffs put in place by the current administration. Luckily, they did not end up having to pay a tariff tax and were able to get the vehicle without any dealer markup.

Trim Levels, Pricing, and Power
The latest 4Runner is available in 12 different trim levels, including the base SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road i-FORCE MAX, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, TRD Off-Road Premium i-FORCE MAX, Limited i-FORCE MAX, Platinum, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter. All-new 4Runner starts from $42,270 and features a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 with 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, or buyers can opt for a hybrid model with the same 2.4-liter turbo engine but adds a battery pack that increases power to 326 horsepower (323 in the Trailhunter) and 465 lb-ft of torque.

Options On the Long-Term 4Runner
Cars.com decided on a 4Runner Hybrid TRD Off-Road Premium that was priced at $61,219. The options list was simple with prewired auxiliary switches ($400), power moonroof ($850), all-weather floormats ($199), gloss-black roof rack crossbars ($420), and an all-weather cargo tray ($130). They deposited $2,500 to keep their coveted spot in line to buy a new 4Runner, which could be applied to the purchase price.

Trading In Their Previous Long-Termer
Cars.com decided to trade in their previous long-term fleet vehicle, a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk, for which they received $32,000 as a trade-in value, which is a massive drop from the vehicle’s original MSRP of more than $70,000. Resale value is one specific place where Toyota vehicles thrive, especially the 4Runner.
A Word from Cars.com
The website seems excited to get their 4Runner and use it for many purposes, saying, “From here, we’ll add our 4Runner to the rotation of cars our team of editors drive. We plan on using it for family hauling, camping, towing, road trips and more to see if the 4Runner lives up to its reputation as a capable and versatile off-road SUV.”
